Six Pack App PRO for Iphone, Ipad and Ipod touch review

Six Pack App Pro is effectively a fitness bible. It is aimed at those who are serious about getting fit, losing weight or just staying healthy by using a gym.

The app is not the nicest looking, with its army-style lettering and simple buttons giving it a rather basic look, although it is not too ugly as to detract from the overall experience.

The idea of the app is to provide an encyclopedia of different exercises and their uses, how to perform them and the effect they will have.

Upon starting the app, there are plenty of different ways to decide which exercises to do. If you already know which exercise you want, you can go to the ‘all exercises’ section, where you can scroll through every one of the 100 plus exercises in the app to find the one you are looking for.

Alternatively, if you know which muscle group you want to work on but need exercises to perform, you can search for exercises by muscle group. By tapping on one of seven different groups you are taken to a list of exercises specific to the muscles you selected.

Yet another way of finding the exercises you want is by selecting the type of exercise you are looking for. There are 8 options, for example, ‘barbell’, if you want exercises that are performed with a barbell only, and so on.

So that’s how to locate the exercises; now onto the exercises themselves. A great deal of work has gone into the creation of these, with a massive amount of information available at your fingertips. Upon selecting the exercise you are presented with a series of full colour pictures, showing you step by step how to carry it out.

Down one side of the screen is a menu with several options. The first is ‘steps’. By tapping this, the screen flips to an in depth, step by step written guide to performing the actions pictured. They are well written and punctuated, and clearly a lot of work has gone into the descriptions.

The next option is ‘info’, which tells you a bit about the exercise, and takes you through some precautions to ensure your safety.

Next is a ‘tips’ section. This section is like an FAQ for the exercise, containing ways to make the exercise more difficult, and variations of the exercise to target slightly different muscle groups.

The following section is entitled ‘muscles’. This section houses highly detailed anatomical diagrams, with labels showing the muscles that the exercise will targets. The diagrams are of a very high quality, and are very useful in determining which exercises to do.

Finally, there is a ‘don’t’ section, which tells what specifically not to do if you want to carry out each exercise properly, with correct form. The level of detail available for each exercise is truly astonishing.

A recent update to the app has also added a ‘workout log’. This fantastic feature lets you create your own workouts by adding different exercises to a list. You can then record how many sets and reps you will do, along with the weight you will use. This ability to store your workout data all in one place is extremely useful, and will save users a lot of time from having to locate each individual exercise every workout.

If you don’t fancy searching through the exercises to decide your own workout, this app has also catered for you, with a series of preset workouts specifically designed for different muscle groups and levels of experience. These range from ‘Beginner’ workouts, to specific upper and lower body workouts, and are perfect for new gym users.

The amount of work that has gone into this app is huge, with full muscular and skeletal anatomical diagrams, and highly detailed walk-throughs for each exercise. Whether you are planning on joining a gym, or are a veteran gym user who wants to keep up to scratch with your technique, this app will serve its’ purpose exceedingly well.
